This big ol’ T&C has seen very little action in it’s lifetime. Purchased new at the famous Marshall Field’s store in downtown Chicago, it sat for half a century in a barely lived-in Chicago high-rise condo. We got our hands on it as the new owners were in the midst of demolition. That doesn’t mean it’s entirely in pristine condition: time does have it’s costs. The chrome oven racks, dials and handles need attention. There are nicks on the porcelain panels, and a few spots on the cooktop are rusting through. All of which we can easily take care of for additional cost. Photos show minimal cooking grease/dirt and demolition dust, all of which will be gone with servicing. Check out the porcelain heads on all the burners: unbelievably intact. And the drip pans around them, normally scorched and chipped, are spotless, again indicating minimal use.
If you’ve got a big crew to feed and prefer an appliance for the heart of your home that doesn’t exude the sterility of a stainless steel surgical suite, then this is the stove for you: two ovens, eight burners, one large and two small broilers, plus a giant griddle. Each oven and the large broiler have “Bryant Lyter” auto-lighting (standing pilot) safety systems.
Very nicely designed, with lots of shiny chrome bits. Just try to find a new stove with this much personality and ability. Ain’t gonna happen.
