Maytag Dutch Oven, "Jane". 40.25" 1949-53
Maytag Dutch Oven, "Jane". 40.25" 1949-53
Cool Jetson design variation by Maytag of their energy-saving retained heat range makes this the fastest looking appliance in your kitchen. The looks are due in much part to the awesome module on the backsplash holding the burner dials and fluorescent light. (Maytag touted that dial placement as "Kid Safe").
Start your soup or stew in the morning in the deepwell: It will cook and, keep hot 'til dinner time. Or, use the smaller "utensils" to cook multiple items all at once for a "One-And-Done" meal.
For "retained heat" baking in the match-lite oven*, set the temp on the thermostat dial, set the timer for the "gas on" time suggested in Maytag's large cookbook/owner's manual (we've got them at extra cost). Then open the oven door, apply a flame to the lighting port and turn on the gas. Close the door. The timer will shut off the gas at the set time, and your food will continue to cook on retained heat, due to the ingeniously designed venting and super-insulated oven compartment. No chance of burning, and you'll consume less than one-third the gas used in any other oven, vintage or modern (besides Chambers brand stoves). No problem using your oven as you are used to: retained heat cooking is simply an option.
In fantastic "as found" condition.
*Match-lite oven. We can install an auto-lighting standing pilot oven safety system at extra cost.
Dimensions are W: just under 40.25" x H: 36" to cooktop surface (46" to top of dials on backsplash) x D: 25" back to front of door panels.
